Karl's Quote of the Week

Because I'm quoting him all the time lately, I've decided to make a weekly installation of Karl's fashion tidbits, ramblings, and divine inspiration (due to my latest obsession with his Twitter page).

Memorial Day

A big thank you to all the men and women serving our country and protecting us at home.  We don't thank you enough.

The French say you get hungry when you’re eating, and I get inspired when I’m working. It’s my engine.

You had me at Mick Jagger and shoulder pads...

What started as an innocent browse through fashion blogrolls on all my favorite sites turned into a full blown blog crush on "4th and Bleeker".  Read one post and you're hooked.  Seriously, try it.  But come right back (I need blog love too!).

Bali Honeymoon, Partie Deux

If only I could have a team of hair/makeup people and a squad of stylists to make my honeymoon pics this glam!

Because sequin harem pants are a must-have for a third world bus ride.

Have I ever mentioned how much I love elephants?

Elephants + Ralph Lauren safari outfit= perfection!

Loving the boho chic.  Kind of timeless, no?

Bali Honeymoon

As many of you know, in three weeks I'm going to be a Mrs!  As exciting as the wedding is, I'm just as excited about the honeymoon (and a chance to relax after all the wedding madness).  We are spending 2 weeks in Bali, after a 24 hour layover in Tokyo (more on that later).  I'm so excited to bike through the artistic communities of Ubud and the rolling countryside, take a Balinese cooking class, learn to surf (hopefully), and fully take advantage of the free yoga/pilates classes at our resort. So for the next few weeks I will be featuring Bali-esque photoshoots, begining with this amazing 2007 shoot of Anja Rubik, for Vogue UK.

Happy Cinco de Mayo

When I think of Cinco de Mayo, I think of bright bursts of colors.

Ridiculous Rodarte

It's easy to understand the fashion world's latest fascination with Kate and Laura Mulleavy, Rodarte's ingenious yet surprisingly low-key designers.  They present something new, intricately crafted, and almost dream-like pieces season after season.  While the current economy is driving designers to create more sellable, watered down versions of themselves, the Mulleavy girls refuse to compromise the integrity of their designs.

The Rodarte story had a meager beginning, with the self-taught sisters sewing in their parents basement, while juggling retail jobs, putting every penny into their meticulous dresses.  They learned basic construction and draping by deconstructing a Chanel gown.  Picking up old-world techniques, and couture detailing, the girls began to unintentionally reinvent ready-to-wear as we know it.

The sisters arrived in New York with a suitcase full of dresses, going to every fashion editor and top buyers looking for a break.  Tenacity and talent landed them in the office of none other than the great Anna Wintour, who immediately began shooting their garments for Vogue and helped place them with top buyers around the globe .

After consistently wowing fashion editors and celebutantes for several seasons now, it is rumored the Rodarte girls will be branching out to bridal this summer for filmmaker Miranda July.

I found these images on Mika's Seven Eight blog and immediately fell in love!  If you haven't checked out her blog yet, you should.
